Eskom continues to shower South Africa with more power without any load-shedding, there has only been outages where there are infrastructure/system issues such as transformer failure. Just like in the Free State – where there was a transformer failure at the Rouxville Substation that lead to loss of electricity supply according to the statement released.
‘The failure of a 66/22 kV transformer at Rouxville Substation at 19:00 on Sunday, 12 January 2020 has resulted in a loss of supply to three Free State towns’ Eskom said in a statement.
It was believed that the supply of electricity to Zastron will be restored before midnight on Monday, January 13, 2020. Whereas the electricity supply to Smithfield and Rouxville will be restored in the early hours of Tuesday, 14 January 2020.
Since it was noted that Mr. Jaby Mabuza has resigned as the Chair at Eskom, South Africa was in shock, however, load-shedding seems manageable for the past few days. There hasn’t been any load-shedding for the past few days, including on Monday, January 13, 2020.

Load-shedding Tuesday, 14 January 2020
Eskom announced that there will be no load-shedding expected on Monday, 14 January 2020 (There wasn’t any implemented on the 13th as there was enough generation capacity to meet the day’s demand)
‘Our Emergency reserves were conserved today and will be adequate to supplement the generation capacity tomorrow, should the need arise. As a result, no load shedding is expected tomorrow. ’
Eskom reported unplanned outages that were at 12759MW Monday evening and that the team is working to bring back generation units that were on planned maintenance and those experiencing breakdowns to increase available capacity.
‘We are monitoring the system closely’, Eskom said on a statement released on Monday. ‘We will continue to give periodic updates on the status of the power system as things may change at short notice’
‘it is important to note that the power system is vulnerable and volatile with an aging fleet that requires higher levels of maintenance’ Eskom said in a statement.
