Following the President’s speech to extend the lockdown beyond the initial 21 days due to the COVID-19 outbreak – Zweli Mkhize has confirmed that, as it stands, South Africa has 2028 confirmed cases with a death toll rising to 25.
Most South Africans are happy with the president’s decision to extend the lockdown. The lockdown has seemingly worked, but it is too early to tell.
Over 75 000 people in South Africa have been tested. Gauteng Province remains the epicenter of the virus with 813 cases recorded followed by Western Cape with 546 cases.
KwaZulu-Natal has the most COVID-19 deaths, recording 12 deaths. There are 410 recoveries to date in South Africa, most of which are in Gauteng and Western Cape.
“It is with sadness that we report a new COVID-19 related death. This takes the total number of death to 25.”
“The deceased patient is a 61-year-old male from the Western Cape. His underlying medical conditions included diabetes, hypertension, and obesity.” Dr. Zweli Mkhize added in a statement.
