It was confirmed by the health minister, Zweli Mkhize that the number of COVID-19 cases in South Africa has just gone up by 14 new confirmed cases. Yesterday, 24 cases were confirmed.
In a statement, he said “Fellow South Africans, as of today, 14 March 2020, the total number of confirmed COVID – 19 cases is now 38. This means that our numbers have increased by 14 from yesterday’s confirmed cases of 24.”
This was expected as he had previously pointed out that there were more positive results as the NICD and NHLS were still verifying the information and the results.
“At this point, I wish to also bring it to your attention that there are more positive results that have come out. The NICD and NHLS are now verifying the information and these results. Thereafter we will make a formal announcement.”
He also suggested the media waits for the final announcement before publication – and thus as of today, there are 38 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in South Africa.
