A special Cabinet meeting held yesterday, 31 January 2022, has approved changes to the Adjusted Alert Level 1 COVID-19 regulations. This follows meetings of the National Coronavirus Command Council (NCCC) and the President’s Coordinating Council (PCC) which received updates on the management of COVID-19 in South Africa.
• The isolation period for those infected with symptomatic Covid-19 has been moved to 7 days from 10 days while the need for asymptomatic cases and contacts of those infected to isolate has been removed.
• School children can all now return to their educational facilities full time. Some schools had been operating learning by rotation to ensure social distancing.
“Based on the trajectory of the pandemic and the levels of vaccination in the country, Cabinet has decided to make changes to Adjusted Alert Level 1 with immediate effect. The rationale for these amendments is informed by the proportion of people with immunity to COVID-19 which has risen substantially, exceeding 60-80% in several sero-surveys. “- Statement issued by the minister in the presidency, Mr Mondli Gungubele.
