LTE is great for speed; you get the best internet experience – and no more buffering. LTE doesn’t change how you are billed; it changes your internet experience.
MTN Dual Calling
MTN offers you Dual Calling where you can link two SIM Cards together to use a single number. These SIM Cards can be used together at the same time on different devices. However, the first number on the original SIM will be the primary SIM Card and will get preference when receiving calls before being diverted.
It is important to note that all SMSs will be received by a Primary SIM. The secondary SIM card will have a monthly subscription fee of R10.
How to get MTN Dual Calling?
It is as easy as ABC; all you have to do is to have your second SIM card at hand, which you may purchase at any MTN Store and/or participating retailers around South Africa.
Once you have the SIM Card, you will have to call 135 from your MTN Contract and speak to a consultant to activate your dual Calling services.
MTN Call Barring
Call Barring is best for blocking unnecessary incoming and, or outgoing calls. You can choose any numbers that cannot call you, in other words, block any incoming calls from specific numbers, and you can block numbers that can’t be called directly from your phone.
It is also best when you traveling – you can choose to block all incoming calls to avoid charges for those calls. You can, however, divert any calls to voice in order to avoid having to pay for those calls and the fees will be affected by country as well as your price plan.
You pay for incoming calls when you are abroad with MTN Roaming. It’s often best to know the price you will pay.
With Call Barring if your handset supports the function you can call 135 with your default 4-gits barring code (0000) – it is advisable to change it when speaking to an MTN Consultant.
MTN Pay4Me
I honestly didn’t know this functionality still exist – where you can make an MTN call to another MTN number and ask the person you are calling to pay for the phone call. But yes, this MTN-to-MTN Pay4me Service still exists.
This is how it works
- You make a call
- They will be asked to press 1 to accept your call, or 0 to decline it.
- If the number you are calling doesn’t have airtime, the SIM cardholder will receive a notification or a ‘missed call’ SMS,
Pay4Me calls are charged at 99c per minutes and are billed per second. In order to activate and or make an MTN Pay4Me call, you just have to dial:
*127*MTN Number#
MTN Conference Calling
Most recently since Night Shifts by Vodacom, many young people love Conference Calls, inviting people to join the conversation and talking for hours. MTN Conference Calling works the same way, it allows up to 5 people on the same conversation.

MTN PAYG subscribers can be added to conference calls, but unfortunately, cannot initiate one, whereas, with Vodacom Prepaid Customers, anyone can make a conference call at any time
MTN Conference Calling is for MTN Contract users, and you have to pay a once-off activation fee. You will be billed for the calls, and getting conference calls has been made easy.
If your handset supports the functionality, you can call 135 on your MTN Contract cellphone and ask for the service to be activated.
MTN Call Line Identity (CLI)
You can choose to make your number Private when making calls or you can choose for your number to be displayed on the receiver’s handset when making outgoing calls. If they have your number stored in their phone, it will show your name – However, if you withhold your number during calls, all it will display on the other end is “Private Number”, “Unknown Number”, “Anonymous” etc.
The MTN Call Line Identity (CLI) by default it’s free for MTN PAYG users and can cost R6 per month for other users are not on a PAYG plan.
To set up CLI is best to check your device supports the functionality or if you are a PAYG user, it will be activated by default, if you are an MTN Contract user you will have to call 135 to activate the CLI service.
