Over the weekend, thousands of Capitec Bank customers were faced with double deductions for the card machines linked with Nedbank. The issue was beyond the bank’s control and the frustrated Capitec clients were informed not to panic as this was a technical error.
“More info on issue: The double deduction was due to a technical issue by another bank & was outside of our control. We are taking this very seriously & are working with the responsible bank to swiftly rectify the issue. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience to our clients.”
“We are aware of a technical issue between us & another bank that has caused Capitec clients who transacted on this bank’s card machines to be double deducted. Our IT team is working to rectify the issue. The transactions will be reversed within the next 24 hours.”
Capitec Bank communicated with the clients who were affected directly through SMS.
“We will SMS the affected clients directly. We apologize for any inconvenience caused.”
Capitec has confirmed that the issue is now resolved.
