I want to show you how to launch your WordPress website using CPANEL. Most people find it very difficult to navigate around cPanel.

What is WordPress?

What is a domain name?

First, when creating a website you will need a domain name. Domain names are created to make IP addresses easy to remember, an IP address is assigned to a Domain Name, which will then be converted into your domain name. You don’t have to memorize the IP address; you just have to remember the name, like “”.

When a Domain name is assigned to an IP Address, whenever a user enters the domain name into the browser, the browser will use the domain to search for corresponding IP Address and displays the website associated with it.

My identity on the internet is “iBusiness” – your domain name represent you online, it is your identity, a brand, unique domain names are very essential as they distinguish you from any other business. A domain name can be found on Google or Bing, Yahoo and any other search engines around the world.

It is best to secure your domain name, search your domain name and purchase it, for later use when you want to launch a website. Your business name can be taken if available, it’s best to purchase an available domain name immediately if it corresponds with your business name.

The shorter the domain name, the better, and It will be easy to remember, you can use common phrases on your domain name like “” – something memorable like “iBusiness”.

A domain name consists of an extension and you can purchase any domain extension, however, some country codes Top Level Domains have rules and you have to meet a certain criteria or have authorization, such as .gov, .edu., .mil however all other ccTLDs are available for everyone even if you don’t belong or stay in that country.

Installing a WordPress Using cPanel manually

  • You will have to download the latest version of WordPress on
  • Once you were able to login to your cPanel, you will have to access the File Directory Folder on your cPanel Menu.
  • Upload the WordPress files into the HTML public folder, if you want to run a WordPress on your subfolder, create a subfolder or rename the WordPress folder to the name of the subfolder for your website – and so your website will be available on g.
  • However, to run the WordPress on the Primary root, upload all the files to HTML public folder.

Before you can do anything else, try to run your website – you should see a welcome page, asking for database information.

You will need to create the following: This may be done manually.  

  1. Database name
  2. Database username
  3. Database password
  4. Database host
  5. Table prefix (if you want to run more than one WordPress in a single database)

The information provided and created will be used to create a wp-config file. However, you can try the automation creation first.

If for any reason this automatic file creation doesn’t work, don’t worry. All this does is filling in the database information to a configuration file. You may also simply open wp-config-sample.php in a text editor, fill in your information, and save it as wp-config.php.

Hit “Let’s Go Button” – “GO TO YOUR CPANEL”

You can create a database name and username as well as the password under Databases and Users on your cPanel.

  • Alternatively, you can go to your phpMyAdmin and click on Databases.
  • Give your database a name, when you click on ‘create’, the database will be immediately created.
  • Tap on Users from your phpMyAdmin, then click on create a user.
    • Create a username
    • Host
    • Generate a Password or create one.
    • Give your user all Global privileges.
  • OR start with a username and let phpMyAdmin functionality take control by checking on “Create a database with the same name and grant all privileges”

Once you have created the database and username, you’ll get a confirmation like “CREATE USER ‘iBusiness’@’localhost’ IDENTIFIED BY ‘***’;GRANT ALL PRIVILEGES ON *.* TO ‘iBusiness’@’localhost’ IDENTIFIED BY ‘***’ WITH GRANT OPTION MAX_QUERIES_PER_HOUR 0 MAX_CONNECTIONS_PER_HOUR 0 MAX_UPDATES_PER_HOUR 0 MAX_USER_CONNECTIONS 0;”

  • Enter the details created back to WordPress

  • Click on “Submit”
  • You should see a message such as “All right, sparky! You’ve made it through this part of the installation. WordPress can now communicate with your database. If you are ready, time now to…” and RUN INSTALLATION.
  • Once you have run the installation you should see a welcome page asking for:
    • Site Title
    • Username for WordPress when you login
    • Password for login credentials (Keep your password secured at all times)
    • Your Email and Adjust your search engine visibility preferences.
  • NOW INSTALL WORDPRESS by clicking on “Install WordPress
  • You will get a “success” screen confirming that WordPress has been installed.

Your WordPress comes with three themes namely:

  • Twenty Seventeen
  • Twenty Fifteen
  • Twenty Sixteen

The default theme is Twenty Seventeen

Your WordPress consist of a Dashboard that will help you to easily navigate and make changes to your website. You now have a fully functional website, and it comes with a default example post and comment.

You can click on posts from your dashboard and delete the post.

How to post your first article?

On your dashboard, you can hover on the “+NEW” link at the top left of your dashboard and click on the post.

You will be taken to a post editor where you can add your title and body of the content and publish your work. Once you click on publish your article will be available to be viewed by your visitors online.

You have a choice to add a Picture, add tags and category as well as the format of the post. You can do the same when you want to add a page, photos or videos as well as users.

Renaming and Creating Categories on WordPress

On your WordPress dashboard, under ‘post’, on the menu that appears on your Left, click on Categories, You will be taken to all of your Categories.

  • The default Category is called “Uncategorized”
  • You can rename this category by hovering over it for options.
  • You can click on “Quick Edit” to change the name and a slug

To make changes to your website – You can click on “customize”, under “appearances”, and change Site Identity, Colors, Header Media, Menus, Widgets, Home Page, CSS, etc.

Adding Widgets is as easy as a drag and drop.
