In a statement posted on Facebook, Greyhound announced that they are making a comeback to South African Roads.
“We’re back! 🥳🙌
South Africa’s luxury coach solutions will be open for business soon. We are so proud and excited to be back on the road!
Watch this space! 🚌😎” – Greyhound Facebook Page
The luxury coach first made the announcement that they will be suspending Greyhound and Citiliner in February 2021 after 37 years of servicing more than a million Southern African customers annually.
The effects of Covid 19 and subsequent lockdowns that restricted people to travel forced Greyhound to function under extremely difficult conditions which negatively affected the company’s financial performance.
On Tuesday 22 March 2022, President Cyril Ramaphosa announced further ease to the lockdown restrictions. The president also said that the state of disaster would only end once a public consultation on new regulations to replace it was complete. The ease in regulations provide businesses with a better environment to function and thrive.
Greyhound is yet to make a full statement on their return and provide the general public with more details on any trips scheduled and how they intend to roll out their operations. The greyhound website is currently undergoing a scheduled maintainance, signaling that preparations are currently being made for a full return.
