The hawks are currently investigating a case of theft that took place over the weekend at their Port Shepstone office.
It is alleged that the thieves stolen cociane worth more than R200 million weighing approximately 541kg according to Hawks spokesperson Brigadier Nomthandazo Mambo.
Brigadier Nomthandazo Mambo said: “A case of business burglary has been registered for further investigation, following a break-in at the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime offices in Port Shepstone between Friday at 16:00 and Monday at 07:00.”
According to the Brigadier “One of the safes in the office, which was used to store exhibits, was tampered with.”
Hawks national head Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya, has also appointed his deputy, Lieutenant General Tebello Constance Mosikili, to conduct an inquiry into the theft.
No suspects have been arrested at the moment.
