You have to be in person for registration, as the registering process is done through the SARS system. You don’t want to find yourself at the branch with wrong and/or missing documents, please ensure you have all the necessary supporting documents before visiting the branch.
Supporting Documents needed
Here’s a table of a list of documents that are accepted by SARS as proof of resident or business address. In any of the documents listed before, it should clearly show the name of the taxpayer (Initials and surname or first name(s) and surname).

There are in some instances where a CRA01 (Confirmation of Entity Residential/Business Address form) must be filled in, in a case where the proof of residence provided is in the name of someone else’s. CRA01/a letter must be filled by the Chief or Councilor if the taxpayer resides in the area where the municipality doesn’t issue accounts no further documentation will be needed.

If you have an entity as a taxpayer and your business is trading from the taxpayer’s address, proof of residence is needed, and this is in a case where you are a sole business owner, however If there are more than one member or director and the business is trading at one of the member’s address, a CRAO1 must be filled by another member.

An original bank statement or ATM or Interment generated statements or any eStamped statement that not older than 3 months, clearly pointing out all the necessary needed details.[/ht_message]
If your spouse doesn’t have a bank account and wants to use their spouse’s bank account, a certified copy of the marriage certificate is required, in a case of a Life Partner, an affidavit is required.
Once you are done registering for Tax and have your tax number allocated to you, you can register for eFiling. This is easier, free and convenient.
