Sunday, 15 March 2020: Load-shedding has been reduced to stage 1 and resumes at 07:00 Sunday Morning throughout the entire day. The implementation of stage 1 load-shedding was due to an improved generation system performance, coupled with low weekend demand, confirms Eskom saying “this allowed for gradual reduction from Stage 4 load-shedding early in the week”
“Koeberg Unit 1 has been safely synchronized onto the grid, which has helped increase generation capacity and eases the scale of load-shedding” stated Eskom in a statement on Saturday.
Eskom reassures the public that the generation will bolster into its full capacity in a few days and the dark days will be averted.
“We are making good progress in restoring the emergency reserves to meet the demand for the coming week”
“Unplanned breakdowns or outages were at 11 041 MW as at 16:50” on Saturday “and planned maintenance outages are at 5 547 MW”
However, even though Stage 1 is implemented this morning, Eskom advises the public that “the ageing fleet is currently constrained, unpredictable and vulnerable”, and thus the stage of load-shedding may change at short notice.
