South Africa

The JSE all share index closing the day at 64 296 from its opening price of 64 177.

On Friday the South African equity markets saw CSG Holdings Ltd. (CSG) being the biggest loser of the day with a -17.86% loss moving from R0.28 to close the day at R0.23, whilst Conduit Capital Ltd. (CND) saw a 56.25% gain moving from R0.64 to R1.00, making it the biggest winner in the equity market.

The Rand slightly slipped against the US Dollar, closing at R14.21 from its opening price of R14.20

President Cyril Ramaphosa announced that the country will move to an adjusted level 2 of the National State of Disaster effective 00:00 13 September 2021.

Commodities

Gold moved from 1 794.58 USD/oz to 1 787.58 USD/oz.

Copper closed the day at 9 684.50 USD/t. from its opening price of 9 369.25 USD/t.

Platinum slipped by -2.1%, closing the day at 960.75 USD/oz from its opening price of 980.96 USD/oz.

Oil prices recovered with Brent Crude moving from 72.90 to closing at 71.45 USD.

Global Markets

The US Dollar Index has ticked higher while investors eye the rise in inflation and the recovery in risk appetite weighed on bonds and as the policy outlook lifting US treasury Yields.

JPN225 took a -0.30% knock while the US equities were up for the day, with USA500.F bottomed at 4470-4477 area. APPLE & MSFT lost over 1% with the USA100 taking a -0.87% decline. Apple down primarily due to the “unfavourable” court ruling related to its app store, just a few days prior to the unveiling of the new iPhone line up. Alphabet down, with Google Play revenue also in doubt.

The USOil up to $70.17 which has been supported by growing signs of supply tightness in the US as a result of Hurricane Ida. About 3/4 of the US Gulf’s offshore oil production has remained halted since late August.

Things to watch today

European Central Bank Schnabel Speaks, Germany 10-Year Bund Auction, OPEC Monthly Report, India Consumer Price Index (CPI), European Central Bank President Lagarde Speaks.
