South Africa

The JSE all share index closing the day at 67 646 from its opening price of 67 069.

On Friday the South African equity markets saw Texton Property Fund Ltd. (TEX) being the biggest loser of the day with a -5.94% loss moving from R3.20 to close the day at R3.01, whilst Capitec Bank Holdings Ltd. saw a 18.97% gain moving from R90.00 to R107.00, making it the biggest winner in the equity market.

Despite the very high unemployment rate results that was released during the week, the Rand continued to show strong signs of recovery against the US Dollar on Friday closing at R14.68 from its opening price of R14.94

Commodities

Commodities showed strong signs of recovery on Friday with our top commodities closing the day on positive gains.

Gold moved from 1 792.43 USD/oz to 1 817.57 USD/oz.

Copper gained by 1.2% closing at 9 423.75 USD/t. from its opening price of 9 315.00 USD/t.

Platinum saw a 3.2% gain on Friday closing the day at 1012.53 USD/oz from its opening price of 981.55 USD/oz.

Oil prices continued recovering on Friday with Brent Crude moving from 72.70 to closing at 71.07 USD.

Global Markets

USDollar Index has been seen in the lower territories following Jerome Powell’s indication that a slow path to rate hikes approach will be taken.

The September 10-year Bund future is up 15 ticks, slightly outperforming US futures. The US 10-year rate is currently down -0.7 bp at 1.30%.
