If you have recently updated your Capitec Bank app. You are required to enter the account number then you’ll be prompted to take a few selfies in order to activate the app (You’ll need to be 18 years or older to continue). Seems this is all part of the government’s procedure (Home Affairs) to ensure that you are the person you say you are.
Capitec has made things easier to activate and/or open an account using the app, as they will need a valid SA ID, and the next steps will be to verify your identity with the Department of Home Affairs.
Whether you are opening a new account, or simply activating your app with an unlinked/registered account for the app, the next step is to move to a well-lit area, avoid direct sunlight, avoid shadows and remove any masks, glasses, and hats for selfies
The instructions are as follows:
- Position your face in the oval, this will be indicated on the screen
- Hold for 3 seconds
- Move the phone towards your face
This the new convenient way to activate your app. However, if you had already registered and activated your app before, you will only be required to enter your account number as well as your pin using the same cellphone number when you first registered.
You are now able to open an entire new account using the the app. Many banks like FNB are also doing it.
