Another multimillion Rand dodgy sports field project has come to light in the Eastern Cape. ENCA reporter Dasen Thathiah was at the site to report on the current state of the field. Thathiah pointed out that the first phase of the project has allegedly cost almost R18.9 million and the actual budget of the project is about R30 million Rand, the initial outlay should be around R24 million Rand the municipality told him that they are holding back R5 million Rand until they are happy with the work being done.
The field appears to only have a track and fence only and there is no grass, no water or toilets at the facility while the remaining R5 million is expected to cover the outstanding items to complete the field.
One community member says he cannot call it a sports centre because it does not have different fields to accommodate different sports.
