SA Lockdown: Level 1 and 2 Explained

As things get eased up and we slowly move toward better days and back to our normal days. On Level 2, as with Level 3, Level 4 and Level 5, all COVID-19 health and safety protocols must be followed to avoid unnecessary stress in your life.

You still have to practice social distancing, sanitation, and hygiene, and make use of face mask, face shield.

Some extra services added to Level 2 include:

  • All manufacturing scaling up towards 100% employment
  • Private residential projects
  • All retail permitted
  • All real estate activities permitted;
  • Permitted for business travel, except conferences
  • Restaurants permitted, only for take-away and delivery

The sale of alcohol and cigarettes is expected to be permitted on Level 2 just as on Level 3.

Level 1: Lockdown explained

Added essential services on Level 1

  • All construction projects permitted
  • All postal services and courier services (i.e. eCommerce) permitted
  • All financial and business services permitted
  • Accommodation permitted
  • Restaurants, including sit-down, take-away and delivery, permitted
  • All air travel permitted;
  • All ocean transport permitted;
  • All repair and related emergency services permitted
  • All public administration and government services permitted
  • Other personal services like hair salons, spas and beauticians permitted, subject to directions;
  • Other recreational, cultural and sporting activities and facilities, re-opening subject to directions
  • No limitation on personal movement but persons are encouraged to limit movement to essential travel

On Level 1, all public gatherings are prohibited.
