The Lesseyton Sports, near Komani in the Eastern Cape, allegedly cost as much as R22-million. This is R 7 million more than the original estimated amount. The initial estimated amount was R15 million.

The Enoch Mgijima local municipality is being asked what the money was actually spent on and whether they should have gone ahead to open the sports facility and showcase the opening on social media to parade their “outstanding achievement”.

Eastern Cape Sports Confederation secretary Phumelele Hlathi said, “it doesn’t look like the numbers add up. We, as a sports fraternity, care about getting a sports facility that we can play on.
