South Africa

The JSE all share index closing the day at 64 652 from its opening price of 64 296.

On Monday the South African equity markets saw Mahube Infrastructure Ltd. (MHB) being the biggest loser of the day with a -21.72% loss moving from R5.01 to close the day at R6.40, whilst SilverBridge Holdings Ltd. (SVB) saw a 55.84% gain moving from R0.77 to R1.20, making it the biggest winner in the equity market.

The Rand slightly recovered against the US Dollar and has reclaimed its position as the best performing emerging markets currency. The Rand closed at R14.14 from its opening price of R14.21

Commodities

Gold moved from 1 787.58 USD/oz to 1 793.75 USD/oz.

Copper closed the day at 9 550.50 USD/t. from its opening price of 9 684.50 USD/t.

Platinum gained by 0.5%, closing the day at 965.76 USD/oz from its opening price of 960.75 USD/oz.

Oil prices continued on their recovery trajectory with Brent Crude moving from 72.92 USD to closing at 73.51 USD.

Global Markets

Bonds were supported by the strength seen in last week’s 3-, 10-, and 30 – year auctions, as well as by expectations the FOMC will not announce a QE tapering next week.

USA30 gained by 0.76% while the USA500 makes a 0.23% gain. On the other hand the NASDAQ slipped by -0.07% amid declines in Chinese ADRs at a time of further crackdowns on ANT Group. Japanese indexes are near 31 year highs and JPN225 is currently up.

USOil up to $70.88.

The storm hitting the Gulf of Mexico was upgraded to a Hurricane.
