The Effect Of Various New Exchanges In The South African Financial Markets

South Africa

The JSE all share index closing the day at 62 362 from its opening price of 61 453.

On Tuesday the South African equity markets saw RH Bophelo Ltd. (RHB), being the biggest loser of the day with a -16.67% loss moving from R6.00 to close the day at R5.00, whilst African Equity Empowerment Investments Ltd. (AEE) saw a 64.38% gain moving from R0.73 to R1.20, making it the biggest winner in the equity market.

The Rand continued taking a knock and closed lower against the US Dollar, resulting in a move from R14.79 to R14.84

Commodities

Gold continued its recovery trajectory on Tuesday with a slight move from 1 764.16 USD/oz to 1 774.51 USD/oz.

Copper took a further dip, closing the day at 8 982.50 USD/t. from its opening price of 9 049.15 USD/t.

Platinum showed strong signs of recovery yesterday, closing at 957.23 USD/oz from its opening price of 914.39 USD/oz.

Oil prices slightly recovered, with Brent Crude moving from 73.92 USD to closing at 74.36 USD.

Global Markets

The US Dollar Index holds gains. Equities remain weak with Evergrande worries persist. The USA500 took a -3 knock resulting in a -0.08% change to close at 4354 while the Dow Jones (US30) took a -0.15% knock. Nasdaq (US100) came out on top with a +0.22

USOil continues to recover seeing it break $71.00 earlier. U.S. Crude Oil Inventories are to come later today.

Things to watch today

People’s Bank of China Loan Prime Rate, Bank of Japan Monetary Policy Statement, Bank of Japan Press Conference, South Africa Core Consumer Price Index (CPI), South Africa Consumer Price Index (CPI), South Africa Business Confidence, U.S. Existing Home Sales, U.S. Crude Oil Inventories, U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Economic Projections, U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Statement, Fed Interest Rate Decision, U.S. Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) Press Conference, Brazil Interest Rate Decision.
