South Africa

The JSE all share index was largely moving sideways with a slight downside movement yesterday closing the day at 68 705.73 from its opening price of 68 822.75

On Tuesday the South African equity markets saw SilverBridge Holdings Ltd. being the biggest loser of the day with a -54.05% loss moving from R1.11 to close the day at R0.51, whilst Oando plc saw a 25.00% gain moving from R0.16 to R0.20, making it the biggest winner in the equity market.

South Africa wakes up to an all-time high fuel price with yet another fresh blow of the fuel price hikes.

Commodities

Gold slight took a knock moving from 1 813.47 USD/oz to 1 810.44 USD/oz.

Platinum moved from 1 059.83 USD/oz. to 1 051.52 USD/oz.

Palladium took a slight knock closing the day at 2 664 USD/oz.

Oil prices slightly slipped on Tuesday with Brent Crude moving from 72.89 to closing at 72.41 USD.

Global Markets

US Dollar index 92.00

The September 10-yr Bund yield is up 4 points while US futures are slightly higher, with cash yields still at very low levels. Japan’s 10-yr hit zero overnight and the German rate closed at -0.48% yesterday.

Earnings

The Deutsche Post second-quarter earnings with Revenue increasing by 26% year on year to €22.7 billion in its first quarter. The EBIT (earnings before interest, taxes) tripled to about €2.3 billion with a net income increased to more than €1.4 billion.

Moderna’s share price has risen by 231.78% since the beginning of the year with a new all-time high yesterday above 365.00, before dropping to close at 346.94. Moderna Inc is one of the first few companies to produce the COVID-19 vaccine and develop the mRNA vaccine which has been used for emergency purposes.

New Zealand Employment Change, Australia Retail Sales, South Africa Standard Bank Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), U.K. Composite Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI), U.K. Services Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), U.S. ADP Nonfarm Employment Change, U.S. ISM Non-Manufacturing Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), U.S. Crude Oil Inventories.
